Dr. Nelson
I want you to have an experience developing your own data for HMS and GSSHA models. The goal will be to define the 10 and 100 year runoff event using HMS lumped parameter modeling, MODClark, and GSSHA. Where possible we may try to obtain measured data to help calibrate. Use the things you have learned from the various sensitivity analyses to appropriately select modeling parameters. Specifically you will need to:
Obtain elevation data
Obtain Land Use coverage information
Obtain Soils data at the SSURGO level if you are working on a US model, unless it is unavailable.
Determine the 10 year rainfall depth and 100 year rainfall depth
Develop appropriate parameters
Develop some unique analysis or design aspect not specifically covered in class so far
Grid resolution
Source/Sink for your model (linking GSSHA and HMS in which case your models can be from separate basins)
Land use changes
Detention basin design
There are a hundred more ideas
What you need to turn in:
You should develop a 3-5 page paper (it can be a web page) that:
Provides a basic description of your model study area and how you obtained the data
The development of your modeling parameters
Compare your different models and discuss why results are the same/different
Describe your unique analysis and discuss the results
