After running the respective tutorial, read the following set of questions and write half a page paragraph about what you have learned from this lesson. At this point, you should be able to answer these questions or at least have them help you in writing your paragraph.

Post this paragraph, along with a screen capture, or two,  developed from the results of the tutorial, to your CE531 homework page, then email the TA (include the URL to your homework page).

  1. Do you think that smoothing streams and boundaries is an important step in delineation process?
  2. When do we need to add more arcs to the delineated watershed? And why will we need to do this at the first place?
  3. What are other attributes, rather than elevation does WMS store for a DEM?
  4. What is the difference between a storage capacity curve and a time area curve? And how can we construct them in WMS?
  5. Discuss the pros and cons of DEM in watershed delineation.

  1. Discuss the applicability of a DEM-based, as opposed to map-based, delineation.
  2. After you delineate your watershed, can you define an interior outlet? What are some hydrologic/hydraulc applications that would require defining an interior outlet?
  3. What precautions do we need to consider if we subdivide our watershed? (hint: would basin parameters change?)
  4. When is the watershed delineation wizard useful? Discuss.
