Viewing the Digital Map Images

The maps on this web site are stored in a highly compressed TIF format.  The images have a very high resolution, but a low color depth (1 bit).  This is the only way we could scan such a large image, but still have reasonable file sizes for downloading.

After you download the files, you will want to view them with some type of image viewing or editing software.  Since they are 1 bit color, these images will not display well in some software packages.  However, they look great if you use the Imaging for Windows program developed by Kodak.  This program is included with the Windows 98 and NT operating systems.  You can also download it for free from the Kodak web site.
